NETSCOPE — local route diagnostics 1. Download netscope-route.py. Python 3.9 or later is required. 2. Open a terminal in the folder containing the file and run: macOS / Linux: python3 netscope-route.py example.com Windows: py netscope-route.py example.com 3. Replace example.com with your hostname or IP address. 4. After approximately 10–100 seconds, netscope-route-report.json appears next to the script. 5. In NETSCOPE, select Site / IP → Import route and open that JSON file. Linux may require the traceroute package. The script does not install anything. It uses system DNS, traceroute/tracert, ping and HTTPS HEAD. It does not upload the report or run a background service. Reports may contain private router addresses; imports are processed in your browser. Important limitations • The route starts at your computer and reflects the active network and VPN at collection time. • A missing reply from an intermediate hop does NOT prove loss of forwarded traffic. • High latency at one hop does NOT prove that the hop limits throughput. • Traceroute does not measure the bandwidth of each link. • End-to-end ICMP loss may reflect ICMP filtering by the destination. • Unknown hops remain * / no reply; addresses are never invented. The operating system's raw command output is preserved in its original language.
